Any message left prior to a suicide attempt is called a suicide note or death note. A death note can be in written, audio, or video form, although written form is widely used. The written form variations of suicide messages exceeded the conventional use of paper and pen. Probably due to limited resources taking into account the circumscribed period of the whole process of taking owns life, also, another factor is the outburst of emotion by the person planning his death. Moreover, written form method is the cheapest and easiest object of communication although this method does not favor illiterate people or those who are not comfortable to expressing themselves in written language.
Real people who have left famous suicide notes:
Misao Fujimura wrote a suicide poem on a trunk of a tree in Kegon Falls, Japan’s three highest waterfalls, and after finishing his death poem, jumped off. This place becomes an ill-famed spot for sorrowed and desperate young people, mostly to those who are brokenhearted. The last two lines of the poem stated “…Hope shall meet hopeless when there’s nowhere to go.”
Getulio Vargas is an erstwhile Brazilian president whose suicide letter, “Carta Testamento” or simply “Letter of Will,” is used as a political weapon against his enemies. His letter read “Nothing remains except my blood. I gave you my life, now I give you my death(…) I take the first step to eternity. I leave life to enter History.”
Eduardo Chibás is a radio phenomenon who protested against the corruption in Cuba. He was to expose the evidence supporting his protest of the government bribery, but was not able to do so as the congressmen who were going to give him the evidence in support to his claim refused to do so. He apologized to the people of Cuba that he was unable to carry on his promise, made a suicidal speech, cut off by the station and killed himself.
Christine Chubbuck who hypothesized, according to her news copy, that she will die eleven hours later on the morning of July 15, 1974. She planned to open her program by giving a newscast to the public. She covered a restaurant shooting from the day before. The film reel of the restaurant shooting had been jammed and would not run, Chubback continue by saying: “In keeping with Channel 40′s policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first — attempted suicide.” and shot herself. She was announced dead 14 hours later in contrast with her hypothesis of 11 hours.
Kurt Cobain was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head and an overdose of heroin in his bloodstream. His death letter is addressed to Boddah which is a message to his fans, his wife and his daughter. Kurt Cobain is the lead singer of Nirvana. His last string of words in his suicide note is “I don’t have the passion anymore, and so remember, it’s better to burn out than to fade away.”
George Sanders at the age of 31 foresee that he will commit suicide at the age of 65. Upon reaching this age, he did what he said 34 years before. He left a note: “Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck.”
George Eastman, the creator of 35 mm film, who is diagnosed with a degenerative disease had suffered great pain of the last two years of his life. He pulled the trigger directly to his heart leaving a message “My work is done. Why wait?”
Lee Eun-ju, a South Korean actress. She is said to be suffering from insomnia due to nude scenes she had done in one of her films. She slit her wrist and and hung herself. She used her blood as ink and scribbled “Mom, I am sorry and I love you.”
And some fictional people with death note:
L Lawliet partly committed suicide when he wrote his name on the Death Note specifying his manner of death. As there are some differences from the manga, anime and the film version, L’s last messages are probably in “L: Change the World,” a 23-day life span of L before the contract of his death.
Harry Stamper of the Armageddon. He stayed in the shuttle to detonate a bomb in order to destroy the coming asteroid to save humanity. The video being transmitted becomes his tool to impart death will to her daughter. His last words, “We win Gracey.”
Jiraiya of Naruto. With lethal attacks made to him by Pain, he was able to send his dying message and the secrets of Pain to the Konoha. Jiraiya succumb to the depth of the ocean while he thought of a title to his novel.
And no, I don’t prefer suicide after posting this. I still go the natural death, though could be painful or frightful. It is said in books that the ultimate boundary to human life is death and that any man or woman’s pursuit is to go past that boundary. So I say do not flee. Do not escape.
So there is it, no suicide note by me.
