It has been two years ago. T’was almost like this day, summer-filled sunshine. Just the same month, t’was also March.
Way back, you will probably see me wearing a rugged jeans and a simple top. You will always see me walking in ‘that’ university with a book on one hand. If you are my blockmates, you will remember I am always with ‘Eight.’ Eight was named after my bulky backpack. Anyways, while I walk, the probability of me holding a bunch of papers, which I would assume is a ‘thesis draft,’ is a not-so-ordinary occasion. And of of course, you know I hate holding things in my hand ~as these hands of mine water like faucet.
I don’t bring a phone back then. I do not consider a phone as part of the student’s survival kit. And because I do not have a phone, I am always with someone who has one. If you are that someone, I have probably called you once a ‘body guard.’
And I am certain that you know I do not have any notes. I am the laziest person to copy the professor’s lessons. I would just be busy gossiping to my arranged-sit-plan-according-to-your-surname seatmates.
If we do not have classes, we are, of course, around the Metro looking for art subjects to put into our zine. The magazine’s title is ‘Magnum Opus.’ One time, we crammed for the deadline of the magazine and we have a cover-to-cover examination in Front Page and Organizational Behavior which are next subjects away. I thought of myself as a superhero gone bad. I have two minor subjects which I do not have any idea if I would pass. While worrying, I am doing the overall preparations with my co-directors in the Variety Show to be performed four days from that day. My thesis which is entitled “Retirement Cost: Component for Continuance Productivity of Employees of Bank of the Philippine Islands” is still a draft ~and my itinerary for that night is to produce a webpage in one of my major subjects.
All these and I have to check the typos and grammatical errors of all the articles for the magazine.
Well, that’s two years ago. And two months after March of 2007, I finally got my diploma.

Yup, Sij, you are one of my co-directors in “El Filibusterismo The End.” Ow, how we made it funny way back then. Yeah, the 3Gs. Glimpse, Glitz, and Glamour, right? I have to dance the 80s song.
Nope, I don’t miss school. I won’t miss school.

Haha.

So what happened to Magnun Opus? Was it published?
You should have posted your own photo in toga but anyways, happy grad to your nephew.

oo nga no. naging profesional photographer ka dati dahil sa zine.
“I do not consider the phone as part of the student’s survival kit. And because I do not have a phone, I am always with someone who has one.”>>> sounds cool. so nakikitext at nakikitawag ka lang.
kase wala naman talaga akong phone noon. and then my uncle bought me one from states, er, hindi ko naman dinadala!
what happened to your magazine? editorial is the easiest thing to do. you just have to try distancing yourself from the narrative, and put some strong and deep words. done.
