Switching Lights Off is a Crime
Categories: Free Writing, Rant House

footerI do not have a broadband yet that time. I have to come early to work to use the public pc for some internet socializing. It was the day the world will turn off their lights for one hour to save electricity, as well as campaign for the global warming dilemma the humanity is facing right now. I texted my mom and told her to switch off all lights at home when the clock’s hand pointed exactly 8:00. I was so proud of myself that in my own little way I am saving nature even though my contributions were just one-zillionth fraction among others who devoted their life in protecting mother earth. I salute those people who put nature first and the life of the next generation before theirs.

I arrived at the office a bit earlier so I can use the internet. I thought to myself; why not spread the word to my friends. I signed in to my groups while composing a letter on how to wrestle the earth’s enemy, the global warming.

Cathode ray tube in front of me. I have limited time to create a perfect letter to distribute to all my connections in the social networking web site I signed in. I have to generate the just-the-right-thing correspondence to my group. I was once a member of the bobong pinoy yahoo groups that time. So I sent the groups a letter discussing global warming, requesting the readers that if they might have a chance, they turn off their lights at 8:00 p.m.

I clicked the “send button,” and was euphoric thinking that even if just a single reader be influenced by my letter, it will mean much to me.

Letters are supposed to be approved by the moderators of the said group and that’s why my letter will not be read instantly. I sent the message before 2:00 p.m.

I checked again “my groups” if the letter was approved from the message board. It haven’t yet. It’s already 5:00 p.m. and I only have a few hours left.

I didn’t care as long as the letter is published as long as a lone individual is swayed by the letter.

The day was over. I did not have the opportunity to confirm if my letter was published, that is why I checked it the next day. Sadly, my letter wasn’t approved. I was left in awe when I found out about it. I know for certain that the letter I made is for humanity’s sake, it was supposed to be for the next generation. I was there wondering in front of the monitor why the letter wasn’t published.

I searched it twice. Actually, I checked the message board many times if my letter was there and it wasn’t. There was just one letter that talks about global warming but that was published a year ago. All other messages were about student subjects, debates regarding religion, and some discussions about politics.

I reviewed the letter and after weighing things out, the letter didn’t have a conflict of interest. The correspondence I made was about global warming. It’s not an advertisement of any sort. I wasn’t paid when I wrote the letter. I don’t remember any personal attacks, rudeness, profanity or the kind. When I clicked the send button, all I just wanted is to help make this world a better place. That is all.

I wish to write bobong pinoy hatemail but I refused. I thought of writing to them in my most polite manner asking why my letter wasn’t approved, but there’s no point of doing that anymore. I’m thinking that there might be some errors as to why my letter wasn’t approved. And kept thinking that they could mistakenly read my letter as a spam, and thereby thrashing it without fair judgment.

But from then on, I evoke my right to vanish in that group.

If you would like to be a part of preserving the planet you might investigate and promote the use of alcohol as a motor fuel.

The Philippines has a great potential for producing very large quantities of alcohol from seaweed. There are three factors that make the Phils well suited for this type of bio-fuel; the climate there is hot enough year round with no frost or snow, there is a large amount of coastline, and there are plenty of people there smart enough and ambitious enough to manage a large scale effort.

Turning off a light is a good start and I can appreciate that. If you are serious about the mission, take some time to learn about alco-fuels.

Hello there Pinoy Ngumingiti, I am really surprised you’ll be using that name! Yeah, if I have time, I will research about the bio-fuel and alco-fuel!

Anybody can be part of something big and start with something small. People kept forgetting that. People should be like you. I am proud of you. Keep it up, Ax!
